Drinking Smarter

Yes, finally a cup that measures how much you drink and synchs it with your smartphone app.

Meet the Vessyl smart cup.

It’s a smart cup that can detect the liquid you’re drinking. The funny thing is it can apparently even detect the brand of what you’re drinking!

Vessyl can detect most liquids, including alcohol, yoghurt, smoothies. However, for the moment, it can’t detect any trace contaminants but apparently its on their to do list.

The Vessyl monitors the calories that you’re drinking. So if you’re into a healthy lifestyle, your Vessyl will tell you how many calories you’re consuming from your drinks.

Vessyl monitors sugar, caffeine of every hot and cold drink you’re having. Just don’t put your Vessyl in a dishwasher or microwaves, I am sure the sensors in the cup wont like it.

So now when you go into a restaurant and ask for Diet Coke and they give you Coke, you’ll know!

World’s Most Advance Activity Tracker

In my search for the latest activity tracker, I came across an activity tracker from a surprising company – Microsoft. Microsoft released it’s Microsoft Band activity tracker that really does quite a bit.

The reason I call it the world’s most advance activity tracker is because its the only tracker I have see thus far with 10 sensors! The Band is equipped with the following sensors:

  •  Optical heart rate sensor
  • 3-axis accelerometer/gyro
  • Gyrometer
  • GPS
  • Ambient light sensor
  • Skin temperature sensor
  • UV sensor
  • Capacitive senor
  • Galavnic skin response
  • Microphone

The Band does everything an activity tracker is supposed to, like monitoring your heart rate, tracking the distance you walk and run via the built-in GPS, tracks your calorie usage (and “high-fives” you when you reach your calorie goals), monitors your sleep cycle, provides you with fun and challenging guided workouts, sets performance goals for yourself and slowly increases them based on your performance and for all those of you in Australia, the Band measures the UV index while you’re out having fun.

In addition to these typical activity tracker features, Microsoft Band also syncs with your mobile phone to relay text messages, incoming calls and voicemails. Microsoft Band also syncs with your Calendar, Email, Facebook, Twitter, the weather and finance stocks.

An interesting feature of the Band is that it works with Apple, Android and Windows mobile phones. And if you’re using Windows Phone 8.1, you can take notes and set reminders with your voice using Cortana personal assistant.

Why Do People Volunteer?

According to a survey done, around 40% of volunteers volunteer their time and effort because a friend or co-worker introduced them to the opportunity. 25%  of volunteers were influenced by family members.

35% of volunteers made a decision to HELP another, unknown person all on their own.

This is what makes us HUMAN.

When was the last time you took some time out from your own life and helped another person without expecting anything in return? When was the last time you gave back to humanity?

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”
– Mahatma Gandhi

How to Extract Maximum Information from Meetings

Always Be Prepared Before You Attend Meetings!

Before you attend a meeting, make sure you have the meeting’s agenda with you.

Make sure most of the items on the agenda are relevant to you.

Do your homework. Make sure you have adequate information on the status of these items.
People tend to lose focus in meetings when they’re not up-to-date with the item of interest.

Make sure you read relevant documents, especially if the document will be discussed in a meeting. A colleague of mine attended a meeting this morning where the client representative commented that the report was inadequate. When questioned on which section was inadequate, the client admitted he hasn’t read the document fully and was just commenting based on the thickness of the report. Dont be as foolish as this person.

Always end an item with an action plan or close the item.

Leave the meeting on time, regardless of whether all items have been covered. This sets the precedence to all attending on the value of covering each item within its allocated time. This helps eliminate idle chit chatter.
It may take a few tries before everyone commits to finishing a meeting on time.

Read the minute of meetings so that you can prepare for the next meeting.
